As a special needs family, we live a slower life than many others. We have been forced to slow down and stay in the present because most things simply take longer and development does not go as fast for Doris as for "normally disturbed" children. This means that we have simply had to sit back in many cases and simply learn to enjoy when it happens, that which we have been waiting for so long. The joy will be so great!
Sometimes it's a hit like that that makes your heart sing. When you, as a parent of a child with special needs, find the right thing in the jungle of activities that work, or that most likely do not work. This year, Doris was completely sold on sailing and this thanks to a sailing company that knew what their goals and ambitions were. They succeeded in creating an obvious inclusion and a particularly significant context. It is far from everyone who succeeds in that art piece. Amazing!
I have been asked that uncomfortable question about cleft neck, ultrasound an incredible number of times and every time I welcome it with warmth. Namely, it shows both curiosity and courage from the person who asks the question and not least gives me the opportunity to explain and tell and here in turn open the mind of the recipient. I'm not saying one thing or the other, but just sharing our experience and reflecting that there are no guarantees in life for any of us.
Bullseye! After changing the diet and lifestyle of the whole family a number of years ago, no one in the family asks for anything other than real and healthy food cooked from scratch. If you now disregard the health effects of the gryy, the taste for what is good and satisfying has changed. The kids have simply been given a new norm.
The worry about the future probably becomes more tangible in a "funky family" like ours, and therefore thoughts often turn to the valuable role of siblings. Not only today but also tomorrow. The future is closer to our family because we have to think a notch further in all situations. These wonderful siblings! Never take them for granted and enjoy the time that is here and now. In the post there is a link to a lovely little radio documentary that was made for children by UR. Play it for yourself and for siblings. I think many people recognize themselves.
I continue to address the issues of diet and lifestyle and hypothyroidism. This time, I'm thinking about what I wish we parents in general and “special need parents” in particular would get from childcare center and habilitation.
